4th Ards International Folk Festival
29th Sept to 1st Oct
This year heralds the 4th Ards International Guitar Festival and we are broadening our horizons as ever. Those of you who have come to know and love our festival will find the same high level of outstandingly talented musicians all gathered together in one too-brief weekend of guitar heaven. But this time we are offering you a global picture with guitarists from no less than all five continents.
American beauty is well represented as usual with performances by Robert Kessinger, Isaac Guillory and others.
The West is balanced out by Eastern promise in the form of two members of the Wuhan Guitar Society, all the way from China.
Europe supplies the Northern cool through the likes of Pierre Bensusan and Eduardo Niebla, and to heat things up we have the hot African rhythms of Abdul Tee-Jay's Rokoto.
We have a good supply of British guitar legends with sixties / seventies power-blues icon Tony McPhee with The Groundhogs, and the man who many regard as the absolute godfather of acoustic folk and blues guitar, Davey Graham.
We never forget our own home grown guitarists, so we are delighted the Belfast Classical Guitar Society are going to join us on Saturday afternoon.
course the evening concerts are supplemented with open sessions, workshops at
the knee of some of these great guitarists and with factory tours to the
internationally renowned Lowden Guitar Factory there is plenty for the budding
enthusiast to see and do as well.
